This beach cleanup is in collaboration with Scubi Jew and will take place from 10am-1pm at the Eckerd College waterfront. There will be three groups: water, coastal, and land. The water groups will use kayaks to remove debris from the waterfront, while the coastal and land groups will remove litter from the mangroves and popular campus areas. Participation in 3 beach cleanups will earn you 10 RSL hours. Meet at 10:00am at the Eckerd College Waterfront.
November 13th, 2021: Eckerd Beach Cleanup with Scubi Jew

November 10, 2021: DIY Reusables Event
The DIY reusables event will be held under Galbraith with the Reduce Single Use team. We will be tie dying masks in an effort to eliminate the use of discardable, single use masks and go along with the Eckerd style! Additionally, we will be making t shirt bags (bring your own t shirt) to encourage reusing old materials instead of increasing waste by buying new bags. The beeswax wraps station will teach students how to make beeswax wraps that can be used in place of plastic wrap or bags that is often discarded after a single use as waste. Our goal is to educate students how to reuse their materials they have and eliminate their single use plastic waste by creating their own reusable items!

February 24th, 2020: Kennedy Bucci CPS Event
Kennedy Bucci is a graduate student at the University of Toronto who is researching the effects of microplastics on freshwater fish. As plastic pollution becomes a global crisis, being found in every habitat on Earth, Bucci is delving into understanding the complexities of microplastics in the environment and how to mitigate plastic pollution. She is coming to Eckerd to discuss her research and lab experiments that have helped her understand the impacts of microplastics on aquatic environments. 7:00pm, Sheen Auditorium.
February 17th, 2020: Plastic Free Pledge Q&A Session
The Office of Sustainability and The ECOS Environmental Responsibility Committee will be having a Q&A session on the new plastic reduction pledge that was signed by President Eastman last semester. This session will be held on Monday February 17, at 3:00PM in ES 100 (The ES Auditorium).

October 21st, 2019: Reduce Single-Use DIY CPS Event
The Reduce Single-Use team and the Environmental Responsibility Committee encourages the Eckerd community to choose to reuse. At this event, participants will create and personalize their own reusable alternatives to single-use plastic items that can be incorporated in daily campus life. Come join us to make beeswax food wrappers, t-shirt bags, toothpaste and more. We will also raffle off additional environmentally friendly items. Discussions at each table will highlight the need for these alternatives and how individual actions can make a difference.Over the past year, Eckerd’s Reduce Single-Use project (funded by NOAA Marine Debris Program) has been recording plastic consumption behavior on campus. Results to-date will be shared. Come see how we are doing!
